Perhaps the most symbolic symbol of pre-Islamic Turkish history is the wolf. Large claws, sharp and creepy fangs, a voice that causes enemies to give up as it growls, and more... Moreover, wolves are very fond of their freedom and value their mates very much. Perhaps this is why they have been adopted by the Turks.

What should you do when you are faced with a wolf? Look, I'm not saying a dog, there was a monster 4 or 5 times the size of even a tall 15-year-old boy standing in front of Han. Although he wanted to look away from its eyes, he couldn't because he could guess that every move he would make could lead him to death.

But the wolf, who realised that Han was looking at his eyes, was even angrier and made himself ready to attack by rubbing his right foot on the hard rocks with snarls. Meanwhile, Haoran was making plans to hide behind Han and run back the way they came. In a small whisper:

"Han, we need to get out of here. Look at his claws, with one move he can cut us into 8 pieces for dinner."

Indeed, the claws were sharp, large, and shaped like the trunk of an old tree with a branch-like structure.

"Are you crazy Haoran, no matter how fast we run, it will catch us anyway"

If you want to stay away from wolves while staying in the forest, you may need to make a fire. They do not want to get close to you so that their offspring are not affected by the soot and smoke, and they have to leave the area. Moreover, they can be blinded by a live light source. But they had neither the means to light a fire nor any light source. Even the sun had long since left them. The full moon air could be felt in their lungs.

Suddenly, Han was pushed by a force behind him and fell on his back with a loud sound. With his eyes closed, he realised it was Haoran's scream, but for some reason the sound was getting farther and farther away. When he gently lifted his head and looked back between his legs, he saw that Haroan was running away with all his might; his most trusted friend had abandoned him.

For some reason, the wolf had focused on the boy on the ground instead of chasing after a running child. He was walking towards him with slow steps, but with every second he got closer, the growling became less. The wolf was now so close that his saliva could be felt on Han's neck along with his breathing. The only thing the helpless boy could do was to close his eyes and wait.

The wolf slowly opened its mouth to sink its teeth into him and closed its teeth back to make a support point and lifted him into the air. Do not imagine a frightening sight. He had sank his teeth not into Khan, but into the leather garment on his back. It seemed to be carrying him somewhere rather than killing him.

Wolves are more fond of their family than other animals, and if they go on a hunt, they take their prey to them to consume with their family. Moreover, wolves with very strong jaws will never harm their family.

And so it was. The wolf, which was again on the rocks and moving towards its den with slow steps in order not to drop its prey, was moving forward with its head and tail upright. There was no sound from Han. Either he was pretending to be dead or he must have fainted.

When the wolf came near the herd, it dropped the child it had been carrying in its mouth for a while. There was no movement in Han. The wolves, who started barking at him, were not sure whether he was alive or not and threw him into a small puddle of water, holding him in their mouths again. Han woke up in excitement and panic. So he had really fainted, not faked it.

His friend Haoran was a boy who had been with him since he knew him and spent every day with him, a boy who was similar to him in mindset, if not physically. He trusted him a lot. But he was let down. Even though his world was crashing down around him, that was not his priority right now; there was a pack of wolves in front of him.

His breathing quickened, his heart rhythms began to change like stones skipping in water. Her skin colour, which was saturated with sunlight because she loved to walk outside so much, but never compromised its whiteness, had passed from the yellowing stage to the blushing stage. With the cold weather, her legs and arms were shaking and she was looking around with helpless eyes.

While waiting in a sitting position on the floor, his posture was distorted due to his reservations and he took a slightly hunched position. But this situation did not last long. People's voices and the red and yellow colour of the fire could be heard through the trees. It was people coming towards here. Seeing the fire, the wolf pack began to disperse quickly.

But the wolf that kidnapped Han waited until the people came near them, and before leaving, it licked Han's left hand and walked away. What did the licking of his left hand mean?

Han rushed into the crowd of people and found himself in his father's arms. Haoran had run off and brought help. Although she had been wrong to abandon him, she had indirectly saved Han's life.

They set off for the settlement, and as the day dawned again, everyone arrived at their tent. A shaman approached the boy and asked, "What colour was the wolf that kidnapped you?" There were many different colours of wolves. When Han said "Grey", the shaman asked whether the wolf licked his left or right hand.

The shaman, whose vast experience and knowledge was evident from the sharp curves formed by the wrinkles on his face, told him that he would be a leader in the future by using his fortune teller senses when he received the answer of the left hand, and disappeared from sight after bandaging his wounds and giving him a green coloured liquid formed by boiling medicinal herbs.

Han was surprised. In the midst of this astonishment, he felt tired. He had fallen asleep at dawn, when people were waking up for a new day, and did not get up until his father returned to the tent in the evening. For a 15-year-old boy, he had experienced some big things.

His father said, "Tell me, son, did the wolf hunt you or did you hunt the wolf?" His mother, noticing Han stumbling to answer the question, patted her son's head and said, "Normally wolves do not get along with humans and attack them by making a move against them. But these wolves did not attack you. It means that you have defeated the wolves" and embraced his son with a sense of victory.

He wanted to rest his head for a while in the midst of all this. Just then Haoran appeared from the tents on the left. She was approaching him with small but frequent steps. When he came to him, he hugged his neck and said: "I am sorry for leaving you there. But I didn't mean to feed you to the wolf, I wanted to call for help because we couldn't cope."

Han looked at her with angry eyes and his hands were shaking even as he said, "Nothing will change the fact that you let me down." This trembling was not from anger, but from surprise. Haoran, who did not have the face to talk more, took one last look at his best friend who did not forgive him after apologising many times, and walked away, lowering his sad eyes with his exhausted head. He was wrong.

Han had been thinking about what had happened late into the night. When he wanted to fall asleep again, he realised that his cedar was warm, so he turned it over and laid his warm skin on its cold surface.

He had no difficulty falling asleep because his mind was tired from thinking too much and his body was tired from what he had been through. But the more difficult things had not yet begun. This time he would see the wolf, who pretended to leave a sign by licking his hand, in his dreams.
